The Indonesian island of Celebes produces characteristically tangy and vibrant coffee beans. The piquant flavour is complemented by the typical earthy tones associated with Indonesian coffee in general, and Celebes coffee is regarded as being good quality, full-bodied and remarkably syrupy in texture. The production of Kalosi coffee beans is largely the responsibility of smaller farmers, and this is a very high contributing factor in terms of the excellent quality of Celebes coffee beans. The raw coffee beans are double picked and undergo a rigorous screening process in order to remove any imperfections. This means that a quality cup of coffee is ensured, and Celebes coffee has a reputation for being of a high standard thanks to this care and attention in the processing stages.
Nowadays called Sulawesi, the island of Celebes is a place of intrigue and exotic beauty, spreading out in the shape of a large, four-fingered hand right in the middle of the Malay Archipelago. It has a varied and mountainous landscape, and the best coffee beans tend to come from the most mountainous regions – as coffee plants thrive at high altitudes, and in soil with rich, volcanic properties. Celebes has both of these advantages, along with perfect coffee-growing temperatures. As a result, the coffee produced there has wonderfully rich, earthy flavours and subtle fruity hints like berries, which often give it a tangy finish – as opposed to the heavy lingering finish of Sumatran coffees. Chocolate aftertones can often be detected in Celebes Kalosi coffee.
Celebes Kalosi is a popular choice of Indonesian coffee. Those who prefer coffee that is heavy bodied and that will provide an intense and rich flavor yet with low acidity will love this coffee! It brings a taste of the exotic along with its deep and complex aroma complete with tantalising hints of cherry and chocolate.
